I work at a library in Missouri and I just want to make what’s going on a little more clear: minors won’t need permission every time they want to check out a book, but they do need to have a parent or guardian present when they register for a library card. those that currently have cards without parental permission will need to get their parent/guardian to provide a signature before they can check out any new books at my library, but I believe some others are giving them a bit of time before shutting down access
this also means that if you are a minor in Missouri with a library card your parents don’t know about, you may be getting a letter in the mail soon notifying them! if this is a problem you may need to try to intercept it. but you should contact your library if possible (or at least check around their website) to find out what they’re doing to accommodate this rule and how it will affect you
also if you want someone to send hate mail to, this rule comes directly from Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft. he is running for governor so if you live in Missouri and are able to, please vote so we don’t have to deal with that shit
adding on just a bit more information:
Fuck Jay Ashcroft he’s a bastard and a half
Also if any MO residents want to bog down his office a bit you can request a free copy of the Missouri constitution by emailing publications@sos.mo.gov
so embarrassing when i forget im checking someone’s blog and i start scrolling through and liking and reblogging shit as if it’s just my dash. it feels like wandering into someone else’s apartment and not noticing and making myself lunch
reblog if i can wander into your apartment (blog) and make myself lunch (like and reblog as if it’s my dash)
Diabetes isnt the ‘ate too many sweets disease’. It just fucking is not. It’s your body slowly losing an integral function needed to nuture and energize it. Its your pancreas shutting down, its your blood cells rejecting your attempts to feed itself, its not enough insulin to go around. Its you slowly getting colder and weaker, gorging yourself with healthy food and getting next to no benefit, its being so exhausted you cant sleep. Diabetes used to kill, straight-up KILL. So no, I don’t think I will be laughing at your diabetes joke.
I remember in my Arabic class we were going over the alphabet and the teacher was like there’s no ‘P’ etc and this white girl was like wait what but my names Paige and my teacher was like lol then we’d pronounce it as beige and she was so offended I’m crying thinking about it
One of my mom’s friends, Hugh, went to France and they had a lot of trouble pronouncing his name because the entire thing was silent.
salut je m'appelle [REDACTED]
lol when I lived in France my host family had a friend names Hugh. We saw him and his family a lot.
They pronounced it “oog” and I didn’t know until the day before I left France that his name was Hugh. I just thought he had some weird caveman nickname 😭
that is hands down the funniest addition to this post
fucked up how colors look different depending on what screen you’re looking at them on. that should be illegal I think
this fucking shit, you know
I spend so much time carefully picking and adjusting the colors in every single drawing I make that I’d probably lose my mind if I didn’t just repeatedly push this out of my memory and pretend it’s not a thing. Why am I reblogging a blank empty post that doesn’t say anything??? Weird
good news! you can’t make sure that everyone will see the correct colors on their own device, but you can make sure your monitor is as accurate as possible for printing and sharing by calibrating it!
there are a bunch of free monitor tests, but here’s an easy one you can use. the passmark and eizo tests are also pretty good, though passmark doesn’t work in your browser. be warned that some tests may cause eye strain.
you can either use the settings built into your monitor itself or use the display color calibration settings in your operating system to adjust the settings until everything looks correct, and then enjoy your accurate colors.
I wish Americans fucked with more foreign music. You don’t have to know the language to appreciate a good record. Folks in other countries listen to our music and don’t speak a lick of english. Music needs no translator
you’ll get an endless streaming of songs (ad free!).
I personally found myself loving 1970s Ghana, Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire!
Also 1920s and 1970s Japan for sure! Cambodian music:
spectacular. Love Armenia and Mali as well. I’ve been told 70s Germany is weird and 30s
Algeria is cool but I haven’t gotten around to those yet.
Italy’s 1960s is bomb ofc but I’m biased ;)
The Polish Alternative rock band Lao Che was so fucking slept on
